mine's in system32/drivers, so it should be ok? All behaviour of file indicated virus/trojan/hijack pattern as indicated in files above, but all searching indicated it was the correct windows file.   • like "spoOny" said; there IS a difference between the needed system file "SERVICES.EXE" and the viruses.

It is a legitimate windows service, but there is also a Trojan disguising itself as this service. this contact form IF it becomes a resource hog, then your problem lies in the apps that trigged it. Check link for more info. Note - this is not the legitimate services.exe process which should NOT appear in Msconfig/Startup! "sysinit" definitely not required.
